Keith Dionne, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer |
Dr. Dionne joined Surface Logix in October of 2008. He brings nearly 20 years of leadership
experience in the biotechnology industry to the company. Prior to joining Surface Logix, Dr. Dionne was CEO of
Alantos Pharmaceuticals, where he led the Company through its successful acquisition by Amgen for more than
$300 million in cash. Prior to Alantos, Dr. Dionne held senior-level positions at Millennium Pharmaceuticals,
including most recently Vice President of Research and Development Strategy and Vice President & General Manager:
Technology Business. As Vice President of R&D Strategy, he chaired the Portfolio Development Committee responsible
for advancing compounds from early development through launch. Dr. Dionne also led the Millennium/Aventis
Technology Alliance, as well as the Millennium/Monsanto Agricultural Alliance, under which he spearheaded the
start-up of Cereon, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Monsanto. Prior to that, Dr. Dionne was responsible for
technology program management and strategic alliances. Before his tenure with Millennium, Dr. Dionne served
as Head of Pre-Clinical Research & Development: Implants at ALZA Pharmaceuticals. While with ALZA, he led the
development of the Duros™ family of implantable drug delivery systems and was responsible for guiding the
development of Viadur™, a prostate cancer product, from concept to phase II clinical trials in less than
three years. Dr. Dionne was one of four original scientists at CytoTherapeutics, Inc., a cell transplantation
company. He has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Biomedical Department at Brown University. Dr. Dionne
received both his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and his M.S. in the Program for Technology Policy from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. |
Steven Gillis, Ph.D.

At Arch, Dr. Gillis’ focus is on the evaluation of new life science technologies
and also on the development and growth of ARCH's biotechnology portfolio companies. Prior to ARCH, Dr. Gillis
founded Corixa Corp. (acquired by GlaxoSmithKline in July 2005), where he served as the company’s Chief
Executive Officer since its inception and as its Chairman since 1999. Dr. Gillis was also a founder and director
of Immunex Corporation. From 1981 until his departure in 1994, Dr. Gillis served as Immunex’s Director of
Research and Development, Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Immunex’s Research and
Development subsidiary. Dr. Gillis was interim Chief Executive Officer of Immunex following its majority purchase
by American Cyanamid Company and he remained a member of the Board of Directors until 1997. Immunex was acquired
by Amgen Inc. in 2002. An immunologist by training, Dr. Gillis has over 300 peer-reviewed publications in the
areas of molecular and tumor immunology. He is credited as being a pioneer in the field of cytokines and cytokine
receptors. Dr. Gillis received his B.A. from Williams College and his Ph.D. from Dartmouth College. |
Dion Madsen

Mr. Madsen has 15 years of experience in developing technology companies.
He most recently served as Managing Director and leader of the investment practice of Unilever
Technology Ventures Advisory Company LLC, an investment advisor to Unilever Technology Ventures
Fund BV, a €50 million venture fund affiliated with Unilever N.V. From 1998 to 2003 he served as
a Partner of RBC Capital Partners ("RBC"), the private equity arm of the Royal Bank of Canada,
where he was responsible for opening an office covering the Western Canadian market and, in 2002,
for opening the RBC Life Sciences Fund's first U.S.office in San Francisco, California. At RBC,
he led RBC's investments in early-stage North American healthcare companies such as Cytovax
Biotechnologies, Hemosol, Inex Pharmaceuticals, Sembiosys Genetics, Idun Pharmaceuticals,
Corus Pharma, Conforma Therapeutics and NeuroMed Technologies. While at RBC, Mr. Madsen also served
as Chief Financial Officer of Cytovax Biotechnologies Inc., raising a private placement and taking
Cytovax to its IPO in 2001. Prior to joining RBC, Mr. Madsen was Chief Financial Officer of
Cyberion Networking Inc., then a publicly traded national Internet service provider. At
Cyberion, Mr. Madsen restructured the operations of the troubled company, successfully
completed a private placement financing, achieved positive operating cash flow, and repackaged
the company's consumer Internet assets for sale. While at Cyberion, Mr. Madsen initiated technology
development on a secure Internet application that was spun out and ultimately sold by The DocSpace
Company Inc. to Critical Path for $568 million.
Mr. Madsen previously worked in Commercial Banking with the Royal Bank of Canada in Edmonton. He has also been a member of
the Investment Committee of ENSIS Investment Limited Partnership, a Canadian venture capital fund, and the Burrill AgBio Capital Fund, L.P. In
addition, Mr. Madsen has served as a director of Biostar Inc., Idun Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. and has been a board observer on numerous biotechnology
companies. Mr. Madsen currently is a Board Director for Elixir Pharmaceuticals, Surface Logix, and Chromatin. He holds the Chartered Financial
Analyst designation and holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce specializing in Finance from the University of Saskatchewan.

W. James O’Shea
Formerly Vice Chairman of Sepracor, Inc. |

Mr. O’Shea was most recently Vice Chairman of Sepracor, Inc. after having served
as President and Chief Operating Officer of that organization. Prior to joining Sepracor in October 1999,
Mr. O'Shea was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Medical Affairs for Zeneca
Pharmaceuticals, a business unit of Zeneca Inc. While at Zeneca, he also held several management
positions of increasing responsibility in international sales and marketing in the U.S. and U.K. Mr.
O'Shea is an executive Board member and past Chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Council and is
also a Board member of CollaGenex. Mr. O'Shea is a graduate of Liverpool Lord Byron University.
He received an Honors Degree in Applied Physics from the Institute of Physics. |

Bryan Roberts Ph.D.

At Venrock, Dr. Roberts specializes in life sciences and healthcare internet areas.
Dr. Roberts is primarily responsible for Venrock's investments in Illumina and Microbia, and serves on the board
of athenahealth.com, First Genetic Trust, Surface Logix and Xenoport. Prior to joining Venrock, Bryan received
his Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University and from 1989-1992, he served as a corporate
finance analyst in the investment banking department at Kidder Peabody & Co., Inc. Bryan graduated
Phi Beta Kappa with high honors from Dartmouth College, where he obtained a B.A. in Chemistry. |
Marc Rubin, M.D.
President and CEO of Titan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. |
Since 2007, Dr. Rubin has served as President and CEO of Titan, where he also sits on the
Board of Directors. Prior to this, he was the Head of Global Research and Development at Bayer Schering Pharma,
and a member of the Executive Committee of Bayer Healthcare and the Board of Management of Bayer Schering Pharma.
Dr. Rubin trained in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and in the sub specialties of Infectious
Diseases and Oncology at the National Institutes of Health. He then served on the senior staff of the Infectious
Diseases Section of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Rubin joined Glaxo, Inc. (now GlaxoSmithKline and formerly
GlaxoWellcome) in 1990 where he held various positions of increasing seniority prior to joining Schering AG in
2003 with responsibility for worldwide development. Dr. Rubin is board certified in internal medicine, oncology
and infectious diseases. He received his MD from Cornell University Medical College in 1980. |

George M. Whitesides, Ph.D.
Co-Founder, Harvard University, Woodford L. and Ann A. Flowers University Professor

Dr. Whitesides is a world leader in surface chemistry and drug
design. He has received more than 25 professional recognitions and awards, including the 1998 National Medal
of Science and the 2003 Kyoto Prize for Advanced Technology. Dr. Whitesides was a founder of several
successful companies including GelTex Pharmaceuticals, Theravance, and Genzyme. Dr. Whitesides is also a
member of several advisory panels including the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, NASA,
and the National Research Council. Dr. Whitesides is the author or co-author of more than 900 scientific
publications. He received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1964 and was a faculty
member at MIT from 1963 to 1982. He joined the Department of Chemistry of Harvard University in 1982 and was
Chairman of the Department from 1986 to 1989 and Mallinckrodt Professor of Chemistry from 1982 to 2004. |
