Keith Dionne, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer |
Dr. Dionne joined Surface Logix in October of 2008. He brings nearly 20 years of leadership experience in the biotechnology industry to the company. Prior to joining Surface Logix, Dr. Dionne was CEO of Alantos Pharmaceuticals, where he led the Company through its successful acquisition by Amgen for more than $300 million in cash. Prior to Alantos, Dr. Dionne held senior-level positions at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, including most recently Vice President of Research and Development Strategy and Vice President & General Manager: Technology Business. As Vice President of R&D Strategy, he chaired the Portfolio Development Committee responsible for advancing compounds from early development through launch. Dr. Dionne also led the Millennium/Aventis Technology Alliance, as well as the Millennium/Monsanto Agricultural Alliance, under which he spearheaded the start-up of Cereon, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Monsanto. Prior to that, Dr. Dionne was responsible for technology program management and strategic alliances. Before his tenure with Millennium, Dr. Dionne served as Head of Pre-Clinical Research & Development: Implants at ALZA Pharmaceuticals. While with ALZA, he led the development of the Duros™ family of implantable drug delivery systems and was responsible for guiding the development of Viadur™, a prostate cancer product, from concept to phase II clinical trials in less than three years. Dr. Dionne was one of four original scientists at CytoTherapeutics, Inc., a cell transplantation company. He has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Biomedical Department at Brown University. Dr. Dionne received both his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and his M.S. in the Program for Technology Policy from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Paul Sweetnam, Ph.D.

Dr. Sweetnam joined Surface Logix in August of 2001. Prior to joining Surface Logix, Dr. Sweetnam was VP of Research Technologies at Bayer Pharmaceuticals. While at Bayer, Dr. Sweetnam's key focus areas were bioinformatics, genomics, protein biosciences, assay development, HTS, in-vivo and in-vitro pharmacokinetics, toxicology and comparative medicine. Dr. Sweetnam was also responsible for the identification, evaluation and integration of external opportunities in the areas of pharmacology, high throughput screening, molecular biology, protein biosciences and chemical diversity. During his tenure at Bayer, Dr. Sweetnam helped oversee the delivery of nine candidate molecules to development. Prior to joining Bayer, Dr. Sweetnam was employed by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, where he developed and implemented the "Drug Pfinder" program, responsible for identifying, acquiring and optimizing potential and/or novel drug discovery targets. While at Novascreen, a division of Nova Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Sweetnam played an integral role in successfully implementing the first drug selectivity "Profiling" system for the Pharmaceutical Industry. Dr. Sweetnam is a graduate of the University of Maine, earned his Ph.D. in neurochemistry at Georgetown University, was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Departments of Psychiatry and Pharmacology at Yale University School of Medicine, and was an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine.

Warwick Tong, MB ChB MPP
Senior Vice President, Development |
Dr. Tong joined Surface Logix in August 2004. He brings over 12 years of pharmaceutical
experience to Surface Logix. Prior to joining Surface Logix, Dr. Tong was a Vice President in World Wide
Development at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Also at GSK, Dr. Tong held the positions of Vice President, Global Commercial Strategy
for Anti-Infectives, Regional Business Development Director for Asia Pacific and Medical Director in New Zealand. In his commercial
role at GSK, Dr. Tong was responsible for a franchise with annual global sales in excess of $3.2 billion and was responsible for
launching two new anti-viral products. He has also led business development activities on a regional basis and in-licensing
negotiations for a number of global assets at different stages of development. Dr. Tong is qualified as Senior Scholar in Medicine
from Auckland University. |
Winston Henderson
Vice President, General Counsel |
Mr. Henderson joined Surface Logix in May 2000. Prior to joining Surface Logix, Mr. Henderson
was an attorney with Kenyon & Kenyon. Prior to Kenyon & Kenyon, Mr. Henderson worked as a consultant for
Accenture (formerly, Andersen Consulting). His experience covers many areas of intellectual property, including
patent, trademark and copyright litigation, licensing and prosecution, corporate intellectual property strategy,
valuation and due diligence. Mr. Henderson's patent litigation and prosecution experience is focused primarily in
life sciences including biotechnology and medical-related devices. Mr. Henderson received both his B.S. in
Biomedical & Electrical Engineering from Duke University and his J.D. from Duke University School of Law. |
John Wm. Ferkany, Ph.D., M.A.S.
Vice President, Development |
Dr. Ferkany joined Surface Logix in July 2005 as Vice President of Biology bringing over 20
years of experience from the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and contract research management industries. Prior to
joining Surface Logix, Dr. Ferkany served as Senior Vice President for Virtual Drug Development Incorporated, a
privately held biotechnology company engaged in developing therapeutic strategies for biodefense. Dr. Ferkany has
also served as Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of NovaScreen BioSciences Corporation, an international
contract research organization providing screening, profiling and assay development services for pharmaceutical
and biotechnology companies worldwide, and for government agencies including the National Institutes of Health. He
also headed his own consulting firm focused on regulatory preclinical drug development. He also led the Central
Nervous Research group at Nova Pharmaceutical Corporation, the first successful biotechnology spin-out from the
Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ferkany has a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Michigan, a doctoral degree in
Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas at Houston, and a Masters of Administrative Sciences awarded from
the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. |
Olivier Schueller, Ph.D.
Vice President, Chemical Development |
Dr. Schueller joined Surface Logix in 1999 as one of its founding members. Dr. Schueller
oversees scale-up and manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients and clinical trial materials and
coordinates these activities with preclinical and clinical studies. Dr. Schueller received a Licence de
Chimie from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI), a Diplôme d’Ingénieur from Ecole Supérieure de Chimie
Organique et Minérale (formerly located in Paris) and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Ohio State University.
He was a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. George Whitesides in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical
Biology at Harvard University. |
Bridget McCarthy Cole, Ph.D.
Vice President, Discovery |
Dr. McCarthy joined
Surface Logix in May 2006 as Vice President of
Chemistry bringing over 10 years of
pharmaceutical experience to the Company. Prior
to joining Surface Logix, Dr. McCarthy held the
position of Associate Director of Medicinal
Chemistry at the Pfizer Research Technology
Center in Cambridge, Ma. In this role Dr.
McCarthy was responsible for managing medicinal
and analytical chemistry in support of various
drug discovery programs including targets in the
areas of obesity, diabetes and inflammation.
Prior to joining the Pfizer Cambridge site in
2001, Dr. McCarthy held the position of Project
Leader in the Veterinary Medicine Research and
Discovery Division in Groton, CT where she
actively pursued the development of anti-obesity
agents and was a key contributor to the
discovery of Dirlotapide. Dr. McCarthy has a
Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Brandeis
University and conducted post-doctoral work in
asymmetric catalysis at Boston College.

Enoch Kim, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research Technology |
Dr. Kim joined Surface Logix in 1999 as one its founding members. Dr. Kim is
responsible for the development and application of the Pharmacomer Technology Platform. In his most
recent role as Director of Platform Application, he discovered SLx-4090, a gut-selective MTP inhibitor,
currently in Phase 2 development. Dr. Kim received a B.A. from Hamilton College and a Ph.D. in physical
organic chemistry from the Department of Chemistry at Harvard University under the guidance of Professor
George Whitesides. |
