PLATFORM TECHNOLOGY - PURPOSEFUL DRUG DESIGN

Surface Logix Inc. (SLx) is working to build a deep pipeline of products, generated from its proprietary chemistry platform referred to as the Pharmacomer™ Technology Platform.

The Pharmacomer™ Technology Platform stems from the biophysical and surface chemistry work pioneered by Professor George Whitesides at Harvard University. Surface Logix has merged this approach with synthetic medicinal chemistry to better control the interactions between small molecules and the biological macromolecules that are found in the human body.

SLx uses the Platform to purposefully design drugs that respond dynamically to different physiological microenvironments to improve their pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic or toxicity profiles. In particular, Pharmacomers™:

  • Prevent the undesired interactions of drugs with blood and tissue proteins;
  • Improve the solubility and permeability of drugs;
  • Allow control over the gastro-intestinal absorption of drugs;
  • Allow control of the metabolism of drugs by CYP450 enzymes;
  • Enhance the desired molecular interactions to improve the potency and selectivity of drugs

The Pharmacomer™ Technology Platform process allows the rapid identification (12-16 weeks) of improved pre-clinical candidates starting from a pharmacophore that has PK or physico-chemical liabilities. The unique chemical nature of PharmacomersTM means that the improved drugs allow new intellectual property (IP) positions to be established as well as improved functional performance. more...

The Pharmacomer™ Technology Platform allows

  • PK, PD and toxicity issues to be solved early in the development process thereby reducing the risk and cost of development
  • Allows unique intellectual property positions via new chemical entities (NCEs)
  • Enables a fast follower strategy with differentiation by design

Surface Logix Inc. has applied the Pharmacomer™ Platform to known pharmacophores in a variety of therapeutic areas. The current drug pipeline at SLx includes a drug targeted for cardiovascular disease that recently completed a successful Phase 1 trial in humans and is entering Phase 1Ia, and late-stage pre-clinical candidates in oncology and metabolic disorders.

The Company’s commercial strategy is to partner with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to accelerate development and commercialization of product candidates (SLx’s or the partner’s).
